Dovie Bennett

EAST PRAIRIE - Dovie Bennett, 90, died at 4 a.m. July 30, 2002, at her daughter's home.

Born Aug. 31, 1911, in Harrisburg, Ill., daughter of the late George and Rose Allen Lucas, she lived in Mississippi County most of her life and was of the Baptist belief.

On Oct. 30, 1929, she married Carl Roscoe Bennett Sr. who preceded her in death on April 16, 1984.

Survivors include: one son, Carl R. Bennett Jr. of East Prairie; two daughters, Shirley Ray and Jean Barrett of East Prairie; and seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two grandsons, Eddie Ray and Garry Barrett; five brothers, Loydd Lucas, Everett Lucas, Orvall Lucas, Claud Lucas and Jack Lucas; and three sisters, Pearl Lucas, Elva Pike and Katherine Brewer.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home, where services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday with Larry Smith officiating.

Burial will follow in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.

Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
