DEXTER - Byron Scism, 89, formerly of Bloomfield, died Oct. 22, 2006, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter. Born Sept. 12, 1917, at Leora, to the late Thomas Gilbert and Myrtie C. Tanner Scism, he lived most of his life in Bloomfield where he began Scism Motor Co. in 1941 and operated until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge 153 AF and AM and the Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis and a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II...

DEXTER - Byron Scism, 89, formerly of Bloomfield, died Oct. 22, 2006, at Missouri Southern Healthcare in Dexter.

Born Sept. 12, 1917, at Leora, to the late Thomas Gilbert and Myrtie C. Tanner Scism, he lived most of his life in Bloomfield where he began Scism Motor Co. in 1941 and operated until his retirement in 1997. He was a member of the Bloomfield Masonic Lodge 153 AF and AM and the Scottish Rite, Valley of St. Louis and a U.S. Army veteran serving during World War II.

On Jan. 19, 1952, he married Betty Keller, who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: three sons, Tom Scism of Dexter, Bill Schween of Memphis, Tenn. and Eric Schween of New Glarus, Wis.; two brothers, Sam Scism of Park Hills and Thatcher Scism of St. Charles; and six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Visitation is at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield.

Graveside services will follow at 11 a.m. at the Bloomfield Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Hanna of Poplar Bluff will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
