Jay Chambliss

NEW MADRID - Jay Junior Chambliss, 51, died Oct. 11, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

Born April 29, 1951, in Barstow, Calif., son of the late J.R. and Leona Hunt Chambliss, he had been employed by the Mid-American Transportation Barge Line.

Survivors include: one son, Jody Chambliss of Portageville; one daughter, Katrina Borders of Malden; one brother, Scott Chambliss of St. Louis; six sisters, Dixie Akins of LaForge, Judy Keck of Sikeston, Nancy Walker of Lilbourn, Theresa Bradley of Corvalis, Ore., Cindy Gafner of Vermont and Deonna Tanner of New Madrid; and two grandchildren.

One sister preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Lilbourn, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Meryl Duffie, interim pastor of the Church of God in Lilbourn, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn.

Pallbearers will be: Danny J. Cooper, Brian Cooper, Chuck Howard, Greg Lowman, Jonathan Weeks and Brantley Atchley.
