SIKESTON - A group of friends of Mr. and Mrs. Harris Draughton surprised them with a house-warming party at their home on Moore Avenue Sunday night.

SIKESTON - For the second year in a row, the Bank of Sikeston is sponsoring a fall festival of new cars and its parking lot opposite the First Methodist Church will be turned into a spacious outdoor display room.

SIKESTON - The failure to dispatch a fire unit to a fire north of Sikeston Oct. 1 has been termed a violation of established procedure by the Sikeston Department of Pubic Safety, Director Robert Stricker said. The fire, which destroyed a bridge about 7.1 miles northwest of Sikeston near Grant City was reported to Sikeston DPS about 5:10 p.m. Oct. 1. The DPS dispatcher, instead of dispatching a unit to the fire, apparently then contacted the Scott County Sheriff's Department.

DEXTER - Gone are the days of mourning over deceased pets during a small ceremony in the family back yard. Today's animal fanatics are having their dead pets freeze-dried, stuffed and cremated. Michael Ellbracht and Susan McNeeley-Elebracht of Dexter have taken memory preservation one step further. For $1,500 or more, pet owners can have Fluffy's ashes mixed with clay and sculpted into a remarkably lifelike work of art. The patented business is called Everlasting Memories Inc.
