MATTHEWS - Onie Mae Benson Wallace, 95, formerly of East Prairie, died at 7:55 a.m. Oct. 24, 2004, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews. Born Oct. 28, 1908, in Mississippi County, daughter of the late James and Nancy Kelly Benson, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Prairie. She lived in Mississippi County before moving to Salinas, Calif., in 1962, where she worked as a home health aide, and returned to East Prairie in 1988...

MATTHEWS - Onie Mae Benson Wallace, 95, formerly of East Prairie, died at 7:55 a.m. Oct. 24, 2004, at Sells Rest Home in Matthews.

Born Oct. 28, 1908, in Mississippi County, daughter of the late James and Nancy Kelly Benson, she was a member of the First Baptist Church in East Prairie. She lived in Mississippi County before moving to Salinas, Calif., in 1962, where she worked as a home health aide, and returned to East Prairie in 1988.

On Dec. 7, 1925, she married Alvis Thomas Wallace who preceded her in death on Dec. 10, 1961.

Survivors include: two sons, James R. Wallace of Salinas and Alvin J. Wallace of Paducah, Ky.; seven daughters, Katherine Kids of Phoenix, Lottie Cantwell of Albany, Ga., Betty Cooper of Mesa, Ariz., Laverne Wilson of Sikeston, Glenda Dixson of Sacramento, Calif., and Juanita McGough and Gladys Allen of Salinas; four brothers, J.B. Benson of East Prairie, Paul Benson of Muskegon, Mich., Howard Benson of Sikeston and Herman Benson of the Philippine Islands; and 29 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. Wednesday until service time at 11 a.m. at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. Gene Hall of East Prairie will officiate.

Burial will follow in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Billy Wilson, Thomas Wilson, Alvin Wayne, Darrell Wallace, Steve Glenn and Steve Cantwell.
