Jewell Jones
BERTRAND - Eva Jewell Jones, 83, died at 8 a.m. Sept. 11, 2001, at the Bertrand Retirement Facility.
Born Aug. 16, 1918, in Hickman, Ky., daughter of the late Orb and Hettie McClanahan Denning, she lived in Mississippi County most of her life. She was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and Women's Missionary leader.
On June 9, 1934, she married James Andrew "Doc" Jones who preceded her in death on Feb. 11, 1987.
Survivors include: one son, James A. "Jimmy" Jones of Bertrand; five daughters, Pansy E. Terrell, Marie Crumley, Linda Parr and Wanda Byrd of Bertrand and Juanita Riddle of Dexter; three brothers, Warren Denning of Charleston, J.W. Denning of Cape Girardeau and Alvie Denning of Wheaton, Ill.; three sisters, Lena Fagan of Cahokia, Ill., Edna Zook of St. Louis and Sylvia Houston of Pacific; and 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
One great-grandson also preceded her in death.
Services were conducted at 11 a.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston. The Rev. Jim Eskew, pastor of the Church of God of Prophecy in Bertrand, officiated.
Burial followed in the Dogwood Cemetery near East Prairie.
Pallbearers were her grandsons: Darrell Jones, Ronald Jones, Dennis Byrd, Stanley Byrd, Kevin Terrell, Barry Crumley, Todd Crumley and Donald Jones.
