Garland Burchfield
SIKESTON - Garland C. Burchfield, 81, died at 10:25 a.m. Sept. 11, 2001, at the Miner Nursing Center.
Born March 8, 1920, in Wooster, Ark., son of the late John Lee and Mary Edna Wofford Burchfield, he was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. He served with the U.S. Navy on the USS Alabama during World War II and retired in 1978 from McDonnell-Douglas Aircraft Corporation, after 27 years of service. Burchfield had also worked in the "Clean Room" on the space program for the Mercury and Gemini NASA flights.
On Feb. 12, 1983, in Sikeston, he married Jeanne E. Maxwell who survives of Sikeston.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn Sue Adkins of Kansas City and Barbara Cahoon of Sikeston; five brothers, Wendell Burchfield of Newport Richey, Fla., Rudy Burchfield of Barnhart, Hartsel Burchfield of Lenexa, Kan., Harold Burchfield of Corpus Christi, Texas, and James Burchfield of Sikeston; four sisters, Maxine Sweat of San Francisco, Calif., Faye Cunningham of Wellington, Fla., Wanda Dye of Blytheville, Ark., and Pat Oswald of Bragg City; and three grandchildren.
Three brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel, where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Rick Lasley, pastor of Wesley United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.
