Almeta Sides

BLOOMFIELD - Almeta Sides, 63, died Oct. 25, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Born May 12, 1938, in Clarksville, Ark., daughter of Marie Dempsy Dowdy of Dexter and the late Jack Dowdy, she had lived in Bloomfield the past five years and was a homemaker.

In 1971, she married Leon Sides who survives.

Other survivors include: one son, Billy J. Mitchell of Dexter; four daughters, Norma Lawhorn of Illinois, Marilyn Maronies of California, and LaVeta Byrd and Rita Clawson of Dexter; two brothers, Richard Dowdy of Dexter and Larry Dowdy of Tennessee; four sisters, Ivy Horn and Lovena Dowdy of Bloomfield, Nancy Pullum of Dexter and Louise Oliver of Michigan; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Josephine Williamson; four brothers, Bill Spence, Edward Dowdy, Jimmy Dowdy and John Dowdy; and one sister, Alice Faye Dowdy.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Essex Cemetery in Essex with the Rev. Walter Spencer of Campbell officiating.

Burial followed in the Essex cemetery with Watkins and Sons Funeral Service of Dexter in charge of arrangements.
