John Powell

PUXICO - John Powell, 94, died Sept. 5, 2001, at his home.

Born April 8, 1907, near Puxico, son of the late Enoch and Ella Helms Powell, he had lived all his life in Powell and had been a section worker for St. Louis-San Francisco (Frisco) Railroad lines for 37 years. A Past Master of the Puxico Masonic Lodge 596 A.F. and A.M., he had served several times as worthy patron of the Puxico Chapter 422 Order of the Eastern Star. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Puxico.

On Sept. 3, 1931, in Poplar Bluff, he married Mildred Kitchen who preceded him in death Oct. 28, 1994.

He was also preceded in death by one daughter, Catherine Lorraine Powell.

Survivors include: one daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Wilbert Smith of Puxico; one son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Susan Powell of Warrenton; and four grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Friends may call after 6 p.m. Friday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7 p.m.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Revs. Marshall Link and Wiley McGhee officiating.

Burial will follow in the Puxico Cemetery.
