Viola Smith

SCOTT CITY - Viola Smith, 92, died at 6:15 a.m. Nov. 3, 2001, at her home.

Born June 2, 1909, in Dongola, Ill., daughter of the late Albert and Stella Watson Mowery, she was a member of Broadway Methodist Church in Scott City and the United Transportation Union Ladies Auxiliary.

On Dec. 24, 1929, in Scott City, she married Arlie William Smith Sr., who preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1994.

Survivors include: one son, Arlie Smith Jr. of Cape Girardeau; four daughters, Mary Hale and Gladys Slinkard of Scott City, June Peetz of Cape Girardeau and Ruth Brindley of Mission Viejo, Calif.; and 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Two sons, four brothers and two sisters also preceded her in death.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Larry Lawman, officiating.

Burial will follow in Lightner Memorial Cemetery.
