PADUCAH, Ky. -- A winter storm warning remains in effect until noon as a winter storm will continue to bring a mix of wintry precipitation to the region today. The wintry precipitation will continue to fall as primarily freezing rain over a large part of Southeast Missouri.

The precipitation was gradually scheduled to taper off from the northwest as the day progressses, but even in these locations, the potential for freezing drizzle was expected to linger.

The heaviest freezing rain today was expected in a band from Owensboro, Ky. to Paducah, Ky. to New Madrid where an additional one quarter to one half inch of ice accumulation is possible.

Widespread power outages have been reported across the warned area due to downed trees and power lines. Road conditions are treacherous, with some roads closed due to fallen trees and power lines. Major travel problems will persist throughout the area today as temperatures remain below freezing.

Travel is strongly discouraged.
