SIKESTON - Charles Dean Butler, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.H. Butler of Sikeston, ranked seventh among 2,180 freshmen who last week took examinations in English as part of the enrollment activities at Central College in Fayette.
DEXTER - Miss Carolyn Cobb was crowned Miss Stoddard County here Thursday night by Secretary of State Warren Hearnes. Attendants were Miss Essex, Wanda Jarvis and Miss Stoddard County Farm Bureau Laura Lee.

COLUMBIA - The Sikeston Standard Democrat received three awards in the Missouri Press Foundation's 1991 Better Newspaper Contest. Publisher Michael Jensen accepted the second place award for sports coverage and honors for two photographs by photojournalist Timothy Scott on behalf of the staff.Former Standard Democrat Publisher, the late Charles Blanton Jr., was also named to the Newspaper Hall of Fame.
