SIKESTON -- The Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce and Missouri Career Center are expecting big results at their job fair on Wednesday.
As of this morning, 19 employers plan to set up booths at the fair, which is free for any prospective employees. It is scheduled from noon to 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Clinton Building, 501 Campanella.
"We've never had this many employers," said Missy Marshall, SACC executive director. "And this is probably one of the widest array of employers that we've ever had."
Marshall said the high response is something that shocked her and the Missouri Career Center staff organizing the event -- the current economic environment made them think employer turnout would be low.
Marshall said the businesses and jobs reflect those in town, as well as neighboring towns and other states; and many positions.
"These people are looking for certain skills, or they're looking for people who are wanting entry-level positions," she said. "It's a great opportunity for someone who is looking for a job or who is looking to change careers."
Marshall said those who plan to attend the fair need to bring resumes. There will be an area for prospective employees to fill out applications, she noted, adding that some employers will process applications on site, as well as some preliminary screening.
More information about the job fair, as well as employers planning to attend, can be found on the SACC Web site, www.sikeston.net.
