Dexter makes quick work of Sikeston volleyball squad
SIKESTON -- Dexter made quick work of Sikeston's volleyball team on Monday night, beating the Lady Bulldogs in straight sets, 15-2, 15-4.
"We knew it was going to be a tough match, but we really felt we had a chance to play with (Dexter) this year," said Sikeston coach Steve Beydler. "Unfortunately, we were off in every facet of the game tonight. We'll have to see what we can learn from this game and try to move on."
Joy Daniel had five kills, two blocks and one dig. Emily Slaten contributed one kill and served two points.
Beth French served up three points with three digs, and Summer Ray served one point with two digs.
Rachael Vining and Flemming Silverthorn each had two digs. "Generally, we're a decent passing team," said Beydler. "Tonight, we couldn't pass the ball for anything."
Sikeston (10-11-1) will travel to Puxico on Thursday.
Sikeston's junior varsity lost to Dexter 15-6, 15-6. Berneatress Hunt had three blocks and two kills. Erin Bell had two kills. Audra Wooley and Tori McConnell each had one ace.
Maggie Pfefferkorn had four assists, and Erin Box contributed one assist.
"Even though we lost, the girls really played well," said Sikeston junior varsity coach Nancy Miles. "Dexter has an excellent ballclub. The score doesn't represent how well we played tonight."
Sikeston's junior varsity falls to 5-11-1 on the season.
JV TOURNEY
Caruthersville won Sikeston's junior varsity volleyball tournament on Saturday, beating out Sikeston and New Madrid County Central.
The Lady Tigers defeated Sikeston in three sets, 15-9, 15-6, 8-15. Caruthersville then defeated NMCC in straight sets, 15-12, 15-9.
Earlier in the day, Sikeston lost to NMCC in a close one, 5-15, 12-15, 14-16.
Paige Kaiser finished with two aces, six kills and two blocks. Audra Wooley had four aces and four kills.
Berneatress Hunt had five kills, and Erin Bell contributed one. Maggie Pfefferkorn finished with three aces. Lindsey Davis had three assists, and Allison Miller finished with two aces.
