James Barber

SIKESTON - James L. Barber, 53, died Oct. 8, 2001, at the Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Born Aug. 29, 1948, in Charter Oak to Juanita Peppers Barber of Essex and the late Louis H. Barber, he had been a resident of Gray Ridge most of his life and lived in Sikeston for the past four years. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam and received a Silver Star.

Surviving in addition to his mother are: one son, James Barber Miller of Conway; one daughter, Jennifer Jo Helms of Sikeston; two sisters, Carolyn Wasbutsky of Sikeston and Sharon Benthal of Portageville; and a special friend, Pam Williams of Sikeston.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter, where services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Mackie Lewis of Bernie will officiate.

The SEMO Honor Guard will conduct full military honors at the Essex Cemetery.
