Walter Scott
CHAFFEE - Walter Stanley "Scottie" Scott, 68, of Chaffee, died Nov. 5, 2001, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.
He was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Kay Switch, Ark., son of the late Jesse Nelson and Lorene Boyd Scott. Walter "Scottie" is a retired riverboat captain with the Missouri Barge Line. A graduate of Charleston High School, where he achieved recognition in football and track, he attended the University of Missouri and also served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Chaffee Masonic Lodge 618.
He and Maxine Burks were married on Nov. 8, 1982, and she survives.
Other survivors include: one son, Jeffrey "Jay" Scott of Julian, N.C.; two daughters, Gaye Lovegrove of Greenville, S.C., and Nikki Bradley of Scott City; one stepdaughter, Debbie Graham of Jackson; three stepsons, Tim Burks and Tracy Estes of Scott City and Bobby Burks of Chaffee; one brother, Donald Scott of Flint, Mich.; one sister, Helen Blankenship of Mesquite, Texas; 14 grandchildren, Josh and Hannah Scott, Casey and Christopher Lovegrove, Matthew and B.J. Bradley; Samantha, Amy, Stevie and Sidney Burks; Mattie Graham, Jason Ourth and Travis and Trenton Estes.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where a Masonic service is scheduled for 7 p.m.
Services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday in the funeral chapel with the Rev. Jack Bishop officiating.
Burial will follow in Union Park Cemetery.
