CAPE GIRARDEAU - Many teams would be happy with an eighth place finish in one of the toughest wrestling tournaments in Missouri, but the Sikeston Bulldogs had their sites set higher at this year's Tiger Classic.
"Our goal was to finish in the top six," said Sikeston coach Chris Hodgkiss whose team had to settle with the eighth place finish. "We didn't achieve it because we didn't wrestle as well as we should have.
Ste. Genevieve won the team crown with a score of 278. Jackson finished second with 205 followed by Lindbergh at 192.5.
"This is a tough tournament," Hodgkiss said. "I hope this makes us mad and gets us going for the rest of the season."
Sikeston did have a few bright spots. Adam Miller took third place in the 119 pound division by winning four of his five matches while Cleveland Anthony and Jackie Cowley placed fourth in the 130 pound and 160 pound divisions respectively.
