Bessie Johnson

SIKESTON - Bessie B. Johnson, 88, died at 8:45 p.m. Jan. 6, 2002, at Missouri Delta Medical Center.

Born Dec. 31, 1913, at Sikeston, daughter of the late Clarence and Edith Schaffer Curtner, she was a homemaker. She had been a member of the Old Bethel Baptist Church since 1940.

On March 7, 1930, in New Madrid, she married Amos Johnson, who preceded her in death on Jan. 3, 1981.

Survivors include: four sons, the Rev. Amos Johnson, Donnie Johnson and Ronnie Johnson of Sikeston and Terry Johnson of Benton; five daughters, Evelyn Limbaugh, Lois Kirk, Geneva Jones and Linda McClain of Sikeston and Joyce Holmes of Hardin, Ky.; three brothers, Don Curtner of Taylorville, Ill., C.R. Curtner of Jackson and Larry Curtner of Sikeston; one sister, Glenda Ables of Rogersville; and 22 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Lloyd Johnson; three grandchildren; three brothers; and one sister.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the Nunnelee Funeral Chapel where services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Amos A. Johnson will officiate, assisted by the Rev. Steve Vester, pastor of the Old Bethel Baptist Church, and the Rev. Steve Johnson, pastor of the Victory Baptist Church.

Burial will follow in the Memorial Park Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Mike Limbaugh, Randy Briggs, Chalk McClain, Kevin Jones, Scott Jones, Richard Johnson, Aaron Johnson, Justin Johnson and Joey Johnson.
