SIKESTON -- A Wisconsin man died as a result of
injuries he received after being struck by a car
Saturday night on the south side of Sikeston.
According to authorities, the accident occurred just
before 6 p.m. Saturday when Juletta Cornell of Marston
was driving northbound on Highway 61.
Cornell's vehicle, which was in the outside lane, was
approaching the intersection of Henning Drive when a
pedestrian, Raymond A. Sorenson, 77, of Stoddard,
Wis., appeared walking westbound across northbound
traffic.
Cornell, who was traveling at approximately 40 mph had
the green light but applied her brakes when she saw
Sorenson walking at a fast pace. However, she was
unable to stop and her vehicle hit Sorenson.
Sorenson was flown to St. Francis Medical Center and
later transported to Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. He
died early Sunday of massive body trauma received in
the accident.
