COLLIERVILLE, Tenn. - Gerald "Jerry" Avery, 56, formerly of New Madrid, Mo., died Jan. 9, 2002, at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

The son of the late Arline and Lady Avery was a former officer with the Memphis Police Department and retired from the Air National Guard. He was a member of the Central Church of Memphis.

His wife, Myrna Avery, survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Joseph Avery of Memphis; one stepdaughter, Laura Smith of Collierville; one stepson, Greg Powell of Oakland; one sister, Ann Avery Wilson of Cordova; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid.

Services are scheduled for noon Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Madrid with Monsignor Mike Swalina, pastor, officiating.

Burial will follow in the Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn.
