Gene Dorris

LILBOURN - Eugene "Gene" Dorris, 89, died Nov. 6, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Born Dec. 29, 1911, in Steele, son of the late Oscar and Myrtle Woods Dorris, he was a member of the Lilbourn General Baptist Church and Missouri National Guard. He was a self-employed contractor before retiring.

On Dec. 21, 1933, in Caruthersville, he married Jessie Irene Anderson who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: one son, Donald Dorris of Sikeston; four daughters, Patty Souver of Arnold, Linda Lawrence of New Madrid, Donna Faye Ware of Sikeston and Holly Chappell of Morehouse; and nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Three brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Ponder Funeral Home in Lilbourn where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Travis Lambert, pastor of the Lilbourn General Baptist Church, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Mounds Park Cemetery near Lilbourn.
