Jimmy Smith

ESSEX - James D. "Jimmy" Smith, 47, died Dec. 31, 2001 at his home.

Born June 29, 1954, in Parma, son of the late Burl and Maude Maye Davis Smith, he lived in the Dexter and Essex communities all his life and was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Dexter. He was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors include: three daughters, Tammy James of Texas and Constance Smith and Cheryl Smith of Malden; five brothers, Fred Smith, Jonia Ray Smith and Lloyd Smith of Dexter, A.J. Hart of Clarksville, Ark., and Floyd Smith of Poplar Bluff; four sisters, Faye True, Edith Frazier and Jean Burnett of Dexter and Martha Jane Keys of Kansas City; and two grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Melissa Stewart; four brothers, George Hart, R.C. Smith, Burley Smith and David Allen Smith; and two sisters, Essie Carter and Jewell Dean Smith.

Services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Dexter with the Rev. Gerald Beem of Dexter, officiating.

Burial followed in the Dudley Cemetery.
