Brittany Gates

SIKESTON - Brittany Michelle Gates, 12, died at 6:13 p.m. Jan. 1, 2002, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Sikeston.

Born Dec. 28, 1989, in Poplar Bluff, she was the daughter of James Walter and Jessica Eileen Tidwell Gates. A sixth grade student at Scott County Central Elementary School, she was a member of the Sixth Grade Band.

Survivors in addition to her parents include: two brothers, Berren Clark of Haleyville, Ala., and Chris Gates of Sikeston; one sister, Ashley A. Gates of Sikeston; and her maternal grandfather, Shirley L. Tidwell of Sikeston.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Christine Tidwell; and paternal grandparents, Ernest and Hazel Gates. Her aunt, Kay Orman, also died in the accident.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Nunnelee Funeral Chapel.

A joint funeral service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Burnes, pastor of House of Prayer General Baptist Church, officiating.

Burial will follow in Garden of Memories Cemetery.
