WARREN, Mich. - William F. "Bill" Burnes, 86, formerly of Mississippi County, Mo., died at 1:40 a.m. Dec. 29, 2001, at the St. John-Macomb Hospital in Warren.

Born Feb. 19, 1915, in Obion, Tenn., son of the late James F. and Betty Jane Hite Burnes, he was a retired machinist in the automotive industry and was a veteran of World War II.

His wife, Alice Burnes, preceded him in death.

Survivors include: one son, William F. Burnes Jr. of Colorado Springs, Colo.; one stepson, Jim Hatcher, address unavailable; one stepdaughter, Wanda Helfer of Warren; one sister, Rose Taylor of East Prairie, Mo.; and seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Joseph Burnes; one daughter, Carol Ann Burnes; and four brothers and three sisters.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until noon Friday at Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

Graveside services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday at Oak Grove Cemetery near Charleston, Mo., with Burl Britt officiating.
