Bertie Simmons
SCOTT CITY - Elberta Mae "Bertie" Simmons, 97, died at 1:48 p.m. Nov. 14, 2001, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born May 9, 1904, in Millcreek, Ill., to the late Green Perry and Dakota Cruse Watkins, she was a seamstress for 40 years with Ely Walker Co. and a member of the First Baptist Church in Scott City where she taught Sunday school for many years.
On Sept. 5, 1942, she married Otis Simmons, who preceded her in death on May 8, 1987.
Survivors include: two sons, Ralph Menees of Scott City and Ray Menees of Troy; one stepson, Lester Simmons of Scott City; one daughter, Dorothy Raines of Scott City; and 15 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by 1 one son, two grandchildren and 11 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at the Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City where funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Saturday. The Rev. Terry Eades will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Lightner Cemetery at Scott City.
