Richard Scherer
PORTAGEVILLE - Richard George Scherer, 83, died Dec. 2, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
Born Nov. 14, 1918, in Oran, son of the late Bernard and Mary H. Eftink Scherer, he was a member of St. Eustachius Catholic Church and served with the U.S. Army in the South Pacific.
On March 4, 1946, in Portageville, he married Viola Klipfel who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: two sons, Mike Scherer of Jefferson City and Tony Scherer of Portageville; one daughter, Patricia Scherer of St. Louis; two sisters, Mary Jane Clark of Sikeston and Vera Scherer of Portageville; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Edna Christian and Georgia Scherer; three brothers, Jim Scherer, Bernard "Bud" Scherer and Gilbert Scherer; and one granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Scherer.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at DeLisle Funeral Home where a prayer service is scheduled for 7 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Eustachius Catholic Church with the Rev. Hank Grodecki officiating.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Johnny Klipfel, Ronnie Klipfel, David Klipfel, Jerry Scherer, Joe Scherer and Mark Clark.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Tommy Miller, Charles Penman, Darrel Ellis, Marty Essary, Derek Samples, Ardin Simmons, Francis Hulshof, Robert Eftink, Terry McCrate, Denis McCrate and Pete Townsend.
