Thomas Grady
SIKESTON - Thomas Hilton Grady, 94, died Feb. 2, 2002, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Oct. 4, 1907, at Union City, Tenn., son of the late Samuel and Jessie Grady, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekah Lodges, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. A self-employed businessman for many years in Sikeston, he owned and operated Grady's Printing Press for over 25 years. He attended the First Baptist Church with his wife, Maggie Lee Hazel, whom he married on April 13, 1941. She preceded him in death on Sept. 13, 1987.
He was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.
Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Hazel and Ralph Tidwell of Sikeston and Pat and Jack Fletcher of East Alton, Ill.; one stepson and daughter-in-law, Marshall and Barbara Heisler of Sikeston; two brothers and one sister-in-law, J.D. Grady of Texas and Emerson and Opal Grady of Sears, Mich.; one sister and brother-in-law, Polly and Dee McMullen of Plymouth, Mich.; and eight grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. Tuesday at Ponder Funeral Home until time of services at 11 a.m. The Rev. Rick Lasley, pastor of Wesley Methodist Church, will officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery with full military honors given by the New Madrid American Legion Post.
Active pallbearers will be: Brad Tidwell, John Renne, Don Swilley, Castor Aslup, Danny Meeks and Tony Barborek.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Raymond Wright, Bo Ralph, Robert Duckworth and Van Strickland.
