FESTUS - John W. "Bill" Shain, 80, died July 14, 2004, at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Crystal City.

Born April 5, 1924, in Farmington, son of the late Willard "Bill" and Violet Hitt Shain, he was a 1942 graduate of Sikeston Senior High School and member of the First United Methodist Church in Festus-Crystal City. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he retired as a regional sales manager for various food distributors. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of Sikeston Masonic Lodge 310 AF&AM, American Legion Post 253 and Scottish Rite Bodies of St. Louis and Moolah Shrine.

His wife, Faye Lois Warren Shain, preceded him in death on June 6, 2002.

Survivors include: two daughters and sons-in-law, Suzanne and Paul Cantrell Collier of Mableton, Ga., and Patricia and Steve Nelle of Crystal City; one son and daughter-in-law, John W. and Donna Shain Jr. of Festus; two brothers and one sister-in-law, Brad Shain of Memphis, Tenn., and Tom and Carol Shain of Glendora, Calif.; and seven grandchildren, Richard Collier, Shawn and wife Rachael Collier, Geoffrey Nelle, Jon Paul Nelle, Alexander Nelle, John Shain III and Matthew Shain.

Also preceding him in death were two brothers and sisters-in-law, Larry and Gwen Shain and Wendell and Pat Shain; and one grandson, Christopher Todd Collier.

Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.

Visitation will continue from 9 a.m. Tuesday until service time at 10 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Festus-Crystal City. The Rev. Frank Husted, associate pastor, will officiate.

Burial will follow in Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens at Crystal City.
