SIKESTON - On a hot summer's day, Sunset Pool, Spa and Metalcraft is a great place to visit. It just feels cooler walking by the pools and spas filling the business at 801C South Main St.

Mike Wells, general manager, is quick to let customers know he can have them dipping their toes in that pool or spa of their dreams in no time. And since opening their Sikeston store in April, that is just what they have been doing.

Owned by Tom Rankin of Poplar Bluff, the Sikeston store is the second Sunset Pool, Spa and Metalcraft in Southeast Missouri. Rankin's store at Poplar Bluff has been in business for the past 17 years.

According to Wells, Rankin saw his company could fill a need in the Sikeston area, prompting him to expand his operation.

In addition to inground and above ground pools as well as hot tubs å and spas, the business offers all the chemicals and maintenance items needed for their operation. Chemical lines available are Baquacil, Baquaspa and Poolife; and there are pumps and parts for pools made by Hayward, which Rankin described as a leader in the industry.

The store's computerized water lab enables the staff to check water onsite or for a customer to bring a water sample into the store where it will be analyzed. The staff then provides the customer with the exact chemicals needed to ensure a safe and properly maintained pool or spa.

Also Sunset Pool, Spa and Metalcraft carries billiard tables and can provide custom metal work such as automatic gates and wrought iron fencing.

"We try to carry everything you need - all the necessities for your backyard and for having fun," said Wells.

But, Wells emphasized, it isn't just about inventory. What makes Sunset Pool, Spa and Metalcraft the choice for most of their customers is the professionally trained staff.

"People also like our service," he said. "We get it right the first time so it doesn't cost and a leg to get an item up and working."

Because of the staff's skill and training, he estimated they can complete installation of an above ground pool within two to three hours.

Wells encourages customers to shop around before making any decision on buying a pool.

"Our prices are really reasonable," he continued. "And we are full service. We can provide everything from the sale, to the installation to the service afterward."

Open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, customers can also find supplies and information online at the company's Web site, www.sunsetpoolandspa.net.
