PARK HILLS -- Sikeston won its third wrestling tournament of the season on Saturday, placing first in the Park Hills Invitational.
"We really worked hard this past week in practice," said Sikeston coach Chris Hodgkiss. "Just because we had a tournament on Saturday, we didn't let up. I expected the guys to be a little sluggish, but they really weren't. They came out and wrestled well."
Against five other schools, Sikeston won six of 12 weight classes. Adam Miller (119), Kyle Weeks (125), Cleveland Anthony (130), Justin Keller (140), Scott Heuiser (189) and Stuart Carraway all went 5-0 in the tournament to take first.
"We took 12 wrestlers to this tournament, and came away with six first places," said Hodgkiss. "When you have half of your kids win the tournament, you have to be pleased with that. We wrestled solid as a team."
Scotty Keenan (152) and Jackie Cowley (160) both went 4-1 in their respective weight classes to finish second.
Cody Ryan (112) went 3-2. Cody Weeks (135), Tony Reynolds (145) and Joe Johnson (Hwt.) all finished with records of 2-3.
Behind Sikeston, DeSoto took second followed by Park Hills Central, Priory, Dexter and New Madrid County Central. This weekend, Sikeston will compete in the SEMO Conference Tournament at Farmington.
"Just placing in the top four of that tournament is quite an accomplishment," said Hodgkiss of the upcoming event.
Sikeston will travel to Jackson for a dual this Thursday at 7 p.m.
