Herbert Stone
CHARLESTON - Col. Herbert Marshall Stone, 82, died at 12:40 p.m. Dec. 24, 2001, at the Charleston Manor.
Born Sept. 10, 1919, near Charleston, son of the late Frank and Lyde Dunlap Stone, he lived in Charleston most of his life, where he was a member of the First Baptist Church.
After serving in the U.S. Army 37 years before retiring, he returned to Charleston where he had worked for Brown Shoe, Missouri Utilities and Delta Growers, retiring in 1980.
On June 22, 1940, he married Opal Montell Gray who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one sister, Alma Peyton of Stafford, Va.; and four nieces, Sue Forbey of Stafford, Va., Ginger Crook of St. Louis, Francis Morgan of Kimberling and Peggy Pazdera of Charleston.
One brother, Jesse Stone, preceded him in death.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Charleston, where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday. Gerald Collier, pastor, will officiate.
Graveside military rites will be conducted at the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
