SIKESTON -- The Tri-State Junior Golf Tour announced on Wednesday that Sikeston is on the 2002 schedule of events.

The 10-event tour will stop at the Bootheel Golf Club June 12, then play at the Sikeston Country Club on June 13.

The tour is open to all boys and girls who have not reached their 19th birthday, or started college by Aug. 1.

"We provide an opportunity for young men and women across the tri-states to make lasting friendships and learn the game of golf to prepare them for the next level," said the tour's executive director Bob Jones. "It should be a wonderful experience this summer."

Other tour locations for 2002 include Princeton (Ky.), Ledbetter (Ky.), West Paducah (Ky.), Cape Girardeau, Carterville (Ill.), Carbondale (Ill.) and Vienna (Ill.).

Player of the Year honors will be awarded to the junior that accumulates the most points in his or her age group during the course of the tour.

First place in each tournament will receive 200 points, followed by 175 for second, 125 for third, 100 for fourth, 75 for fifth, 50 for sixth, 40 for seventh, 30 for eighth, 20 for ninth, and 10 for 10th.

Points will be doubled during the tour championship, which will take place June 28 at the Silos Golf Club in West Paducah, Ky. for the top players on the tour.

To join the Tri-State Junior Golf Tour, a membership fee of $60 is required. Each event will cost $40 for 18 holes and $30 for nine hoes, which covers the cost of membership, golf fees, and lunch on the day of the event.

The 2001-2002 USGA Rules of Golf will govern all play. Supplemental rules of play will be provided at each site of the tour.

All entries must be received by April 16. For further information, contact the Tri-State Junior Golf Tour at (270) 444-9811.
