When Artrain USA literally rolls into Sikeston next week it will provide area residents with a unique, once in a lifetime cultural opportunity. The only art museum on a train will arrive at the Sikeston Depot on Jan. 22 with two days open to the public on Jan. 26-27.

Tell me of another opportunity for Sikeston residents to view artwork by Norman Rockwell, Andy Warhol, James Wyeth or Peter Max? These celebrated artists' works will be on display for the exhibition Artistry of Space.

The idea behind Artrain USA is simple. The project began nearly three decades ago in Michigan when the concept was born to bring museums to smaller rural areas where those cultural opportunities were limited. With artwork loaned by some of the leading museums in the nation, the project is loaded onto train cars and travels the nation. Thus far, Artrain USA has visited 44 states and entertained 2.8 million visitors.

Admission to this unique opportunity is free but donations are encouraged to help offset the cost of the project.

The Sikeston Cultural Development Corporation is sponsoring this special visit of Artrain USA when it arrives next week. We encourage area residents to mark their calendars and take advantage of these marvelous pieces of art.

Rockwell's work alone is worth the visit but you'll be amazed at the array of art that is coming our way.

Young and old alike will enjoy walking leisurely through the railcars and viewing these one-of-a-kind artworks. It will be an experience you will not likely forget.
