Numerous accidents reported

POPLAR BLUFF - The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported three area accidents over the weekend which resulted in numerous injuries to motorists.

Candace C. Wright, 19, of Hoffman, Ill., was driving south on Interstate 55, four miles south of Scott City at 1:36 a.m. Saturday when her vehicle was struck in the rear by the one driven by Jeffery J. Bryant, 30, of Sikeston.

Wright, who suffered minor injuries, was transported by ambulance to St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

Two New Madrid residents were injured in an early morning accident Sunday on New Madrid County Road 725, three miles north of New Madrid.

According to the report, Stacey Aters, 23, ran off the east side of the roadway. Aters was able to overcorrect the vehicle, which then ran off the west side of the roadway, struck an embankment and then overturned several times. The driver and a passenger were ejected from the vehicle during the accident, which was reported at 12:05 a.m.

Aters sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston.

Bridgette Toton, 19, a passenger in the vehicle, suffered serious injuries and was transported by air to Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

The third accident occurred at 5:30 p.m. Sunday on Highway DD in Scott County, one mile west of Vanduser, when John S. Johnston, 38, of Sikeston was driving west. His vehicle ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree.

Johnston sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Missouri Delta Medical Center.
