Harold Riggs
CHARLESTON - Harold Lee Riggs, 75, died at 11:33 p.m. Dec. 9, 2001, at the John J. Pershing Veterans Administration Medical Center in Poplar Bluff.
Born Feb. 1, 1926, in Charleston, son of the late Lafe and Mae Bell Maxwell Riggs Sr., he lived in Charleston most of his life, where he owned and operated Riggs Garage until his retirement. A U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, he was a member of Elm Street Baptist Church and Charleston VFW Post 4294.
On March 14, 1946, he married Clara Mae Johnson who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Dean and Brenda Riggs of Charleston; one sister, Louise Walters of Sikeston; one grandson and his wife, Paul and Shawnee Riggs of East Prairie; one granddaughter and her husband, Kathy and Rick Galemore of Keller, Texas; and six great-grandchildren, Scotty Riggs and Tucker Riggs of East Prairie and Taylor Galemore, Jordan Galemore and Nicolas Galemore of Keller.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harrison Riggs, Robert Riggs and Lafe Riggs Jr.; and three sisters, Lucille Riggs, Lorene Patterson and Emma Stark.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home in Charleston where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Wednesday. The Rev. Jon Archie, pastor of Elm Street Baptist Church, will officiate.
Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
Pallbearers will be: Larry Mitchell, Dale Mitchell, Ron Mitchell, Stanley Mitchell, Don Hequembourg, Bruce Childers, Stanley May and Paul Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be: L.E. Galemore, George Cogdill, Johnny Chronister, Lynn Ham, John Morehead and Fred DeField.
