Alma Travers

PUXICO - Alma M. Travers, 92, died Jan. 19, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born Nov. 26, 1909, in Puxico, daughter of the late Charley C. and Rose O. Spiva Siler, she was a 1928 graduate of Puxico High School and taught in rural Puxico schools from 1929-45.

In 1954, she moved to St. Louis where she was an accountant for the Wohl Shoe Company before returning to Puxico in 1968.

A former member of the First Baptist Church in Puxico, she moved to Jackson in 1993, where she became a member of the First Baptist Church. A member and past worthy matron of Puxico Order of the Eastern Star, she was a volunteer at Southeast Missouri Hospital and the Senior Citizens Center in Jackson.

On May 21, 1933, at Kinder, she married Henry Travers who preceded her in death on July 21, 1971.

Survivors include: one son, Charles W. Travers of Jackson; and four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by one son, James M. Travers; and one sister, Rita Duncan.

Visitation is scheduled to begin after 6 p.m. Tuesday at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home in Puxico where Eastern Star rites will be conducted at 7 p.m.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Puxico with the Rev. Brian Anderson of Jackson and the Rev. Marshall Link of Puxico officiating.

Burial will follow in the Puxico Cemetery.
