Frances Daniel

CHARLESTON - Frances Elizabeth Daniel, 89, died at 5 a.m. Jan. 20, 2002, at her home.

Born Dec. 12, 1912, in Scott County, daughter of the late Ollie F. and Clara Berns Daniel, she lived in Charleston most of her life, where she was a landowner and member of the United Methodist Church. She attended Charleston Public Schools and graduated as valedictorian of her class. She earned a bachelor of music degree from Central College and Swiney Conservatory in Fayette (Central Methodist College) and studied at the Julliard School of Music in New York. She assumed management of her father's general insurance agency in Charleston in 1937 and continued as owner-operator of the Daniel Insurance Agency for 46 years, retiring in 1982.

A member of the Charleston Business and Professional Women's Club, of which she served at every level as a club officer, she was also a member of the Charleston Athena Club, served on the board for the Charleston Chamber of Commerce and was named Charleston Honorary Woman of the Year.

She is survived by two cousins, J.B. "Bud" and Harriet Small of Wyatt; and special friends, Robert and Donna Morgan of Diehlstadt.

One cousins, Ethel Small, preceded her in death.

Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today at McMikle Funeral Home where services are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. Ed Hankison, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Charleston, will officiate.

Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.

Pallbearers will be: Jamie Small, Jeffrey Small, Terry McCameron, Leo Schott, Reginald Young and Ron Gray.
