Leon Halter
BENTON - Leon Halter, 81, died at 5:45 a.m. Jan. 21, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.
Born Jan. 1, 1921, in Benton, son of the late Charles and Emma Schlitt Halter, he was a self-employed farmer and member of St. Denis Catholic Church and the Chamber of Commerce in Benton.
On March 9, 1943, at Kelso, he married Catherine Enderle who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Diane Halter of Benton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and John Urhahn of Benton and Carol and Robert Jugenheimer of Simsbury, Conn; and six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Benton, where parish prayers are scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Denis Catholic Church with the Rev. Normand Varone officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Denis Cemetery.
