Charlsie Shelton

CLARKTON - Charlsie M. Shelton, 83, died Jan. 23, 2002, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau.

Born Feb. 14, 1918, in Wooster, Ark., daughter of the late Earl and Callie Williams Bass, she was a teachers aide for 10 years for Clarkton School. She was first a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and then the First Baptist Church in Clarkton, where she was a member of the choir, a Sunday school teacher for more than 50 years and participated in the Black River Baptist Association.

On Oct. 8 1939, in Bernie, she married Ernest Gilmore Shelton who preceded her in death on April 4, 1991.

Survivors include: two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Earl and Gail Shelton of Springfield, Va., and Donald Gilmore and Linda Shelton of Kelso; two daughters and sons-in-law, Erna Kay and Richard Trease of St. Louis and Amy Loraine and Delton Mullens of Ringgold, Ga.; one brother, Samuel Milton of Eureka, Ill.; one sister, Hazel Schoen of Grand Junction, Colo.; and five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two brothers, Maurice Bass and Paul Bass; and one sister, Berniece Overbey.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Landess Funeral Home in Malden.

Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Clarkton with the Rev. Daniel Hale officiating.

Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery at Clarkton.
