Herman Matthews

MALDEN - Herman Matthews, 94, died May 8, 2002, at the Malden Nursing Center.

Born Feb. 1, 1908, at Red Bud, Ill., son of the late Herman and Lettie Shumonie Matthews, he was of the Baptist belief.

On Aug. 18, 1930, at Malden, he married Ethel Mae Strong who preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 1998.

Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Leo and Faye Matthews of Herculaneum; two daughters and sons-in-law, Daisy and Junior Tilley of Mammoth Springs, Ark., and Linda and Charlie White of Malden; one brother, Ed McCarthy of Winston, Ore.; one sister, Hattie Cullum of Parma; and eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Also preceding him in death were two sons, Robert Matthews and Ernie Matthews; one sister, Zelma Ritcheson; and two brothers, Goldman McCarthy and Roosevelt McCarthy.

Visitation begins at 6 p.m. Friday at Bradshaw Funeral Home, where services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday. The Rev. Tim Matthews and Randy Moore will officiate.

Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery at Malden.

His grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
