Winnie Greer
MEMPHIS - Winnie Virginia McCoy Greer, 88, formerly of Portageville, Mo., died July 8, 2002, at St. Francis Nursing Home in Memphis.
Born June 13, 1914, in Elbridge, Tenn., daughter of the late Willy West and Mary Clara Storey McCoy, she graduated in 1934 from Ridgely High School.
On Nov. 14, 1936, at Hickman, Ky., she married John William Greer who preceded her in death on April 15, 1988.
She had been a member of the Boekerton Baptist Church where she served as church clerk and was a Sunday school and training union class teacher. She was a dressmaker and worked in a Portageville fabric store for many years. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church in Memphis.
Survivors include: one daughter, Peggy Kirkpatrick of Memphis; one son, John Wesley Greer of Memphis; three sisters, Rrean Winters of Sikeston, Mo., Grace Birchfield of Leneya, Mo., and Betty Thomas of Conway, Ark.; one brother, Ray McCoy of Matthews, Mo.; and four grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were three sisters, Thelma Ingram, Rachael Clark and Bobbie Partney; and four brothers, Jim McCoy, R.D. McCoy, Horace McCoy and Martin Glen McCoy.
Visitation begins at 6 p.m. Wednesday at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville where services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Tim Abernathy officiating.
Burial will follow in the Portageville Cemetery.
