Jewell Stephens

CHAFFEE - Jewell Irene Stephens, 87, died June 10, 2002, at the Chaffee Nursing Center.

Born July 30, 1914, in Deering, daughter of the late John and Florence Jackson Alsup, she was a secretary for Chaffee High School 28 years before retiring. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and PEO Sisterhood in Chaffee.

On Dec. 11, 1943, in Chaffee, she married Ralph Stephens who preceded her in death on Dec. 21, 1975.

Survivors include: one son, Jim Bob Stephens of Birmingham, Ala.; one brother, James W. Alsup of Caruthersville; one sister, Laura Belle Wilbanks of Hayti; and five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Two sisters also preceded her in death.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Graveside services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Friday at the New Lorimier Cemetery in Cape Girardeau. The Rev. Marty Blakey will officiate.
