Alice Walter
SCOTT CITY - Mary Alice Walter, 78, died July 6, 2002.
Born Jan. 10, 1924, at Kelso, daughter of the late Joseph and C. Alvina Lux Ressel, she had held the positions of postmaster, officer in charge and window clerk at the Cape Girardeau Post Office during her 36 years of employment with the U.S. Postal Service before retiring. A member of St. Augustine Catholic Church and St. Ann's Sodality in Kelso, she was also a member of VFW Post 6407 Ladies Auxiliary in Scott City.
On Nov. 27, 1943, she married Arthur Kilhafner who preceded her in death on Sept. 17, 1951. She and Louis A. Walter were married Sept. 3, 1955, and he died on Feb. 29, 1992.
Survivors include: three sons and two daughters-in-law, Delbert and Joan Walter of Cape Girardeau, Lindell Walter of Barnwell, S.C., and Milton and Rachel Walter of Swansea, S.C.; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Mary Jo and Tracy Delk of Barnwell, Colleen Day of Worthington, W.Va., and Lavana and Billy Baldasare of Sayreville, N.J.; one sister, Inez Moll of Scott City; and 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City, where a parish rosary is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Augustine Catholic Church with the Rev. Oliver Clavin officiating.
Burial will follow in the St. Augustine Catholic Cemetery.
