J.W. Smith

EAST PRAIRIE - J.W. Smith, 66, died at 4:22 a.m. Feb. 2, 2002, at his home.

Born Oct. 2, 1935, in Ridgely, Tenn., son of the late Robert Lee and Beulah Mae Harris Smith, he lived in East Prairie most of his life. He was a carpenter with the Davis Lumber Company in East Prairie before retiring and was of the Pentecostal belief.

Survivors include: two sons, Buddy J. Smith of East Prairie and Johnny D. Smith of Los Angeles, Calif.; two daughters, Jeanie Lou Bard of East Prairie and Jeannie Lynn Smith of Baytown, Texas; and eight grandchildren.

Five brothers preceded him in death.

Visitation begins at 5 p.m. today at Shelby Funeral Home where services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday. Tom Snavely and Larry Gammons will officiate.

Burial will follow in East Prairie Memorial Park Cemetery.
