Leda Sisson
PHOENIX, Ariz. - Leda May Daugherty, 92, formerly of Morley and Sikeston, Mo., died July 13, 2002, in Phoenix.
Born Jan. 9, 1910, near Morley, she was the daughter of the late William Ward and Maud Estelle May Daugherty. Many people who called her "Miss Leda" were her students during the 31 years she taught school in Morley and Sikeston. Her loving kindness to all can never be replaced and she will be remembered fondly by all of them. She was an accomplished artist and carried out her hobbies of art and music throughout her lifetime. Leda had earned her private pilot's license and enjoyed flying airplanes with her husband. In 1983, she won a silver medal in the Senior Olympics in race walking at Arizona State University and was an avid baseball fan. A longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Morley and Sikeston, she continued centering her activities around the church and taught Bible study classes for many years in Sikeston and Phoenix. She was actively involved in mission work with the church until the time of her death.
Her husband, Frank L. Sisson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Linda Sisson of Spartanburg, S.C.; one daughter and son-in-law, Ann and Don Brandes of Phoenix; one sister, Maxine Armstrong of Sikeston; four grandsons and spouses, Rocky and Kathy Repp, Russ and Micki Repp, Greg and Patti Sisson and Eric and Nancy Sisson; and nine great-grandchildren.
