Oscar Bess
CHAFFEE - Dennis "Oscar" Bess, 75, died at 1:15 a.m. June 26, 2002, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
Born Oct. 12, 1926, in Chaffee, son of the late Charles and Mary Ella Emrick Bess, he owned and operated the Bess Sinclair Service Station in Chaffee since 1964, where he had worked for 45 years. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and VFW Post 3127 in Chaffee.
On May 8, 1948, he married Ruth Ann Dudley who preceded him in death on Feb. 20, 1998.
Survivors include: two sons, Dennis Bess and Gary Bess of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Sue Brooks-Pence of Advance and Gail Meyer and Lura Scowden of Cape Girardeau; three sisters, Jeweldine Lindy and Mary Holland of St. Louis and Madline Hente of Cape Girardeau; and four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
One son and one brother also preceded him in death.
Visitation begins at 4 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee, where services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday. The Rev. Watis Harrell and the Rev. Vyron Yount will officiate.
Burial will follow in Union Park Cemetery.
