Esther Adkins
MOREHOUSE -- Esther Jewell Adkins, 80, died July 28, 2002, at her home.
Born May 12, 1922, at Curtis, Ark., daughter of the late George Thomas and Pearl Anna Gentles McGuirt, Esther had resided in Arkansas until 1939 and has lived in the Essex and Morehouse area since. She attended the Baptist Church.
On Nov. 20, 1942, in Gray Ridge, she married Joseph Elvin Adkins who survives of the home.
Other survivors include: one son and daughter-in-law, Elvin Dennis and Polly Adkins of Portageville; one daughter and son-in-law, Linda Jo and Freddie Copeland of Lilbourn; and five grandchildren, Angela Adkins of Lakewood, Wash., Tammy and Derek Housman of Tanner and Brian and Lee Ann Godair of Jackson; and five great-grandchildren. Other relatives and friends also survive.
Six brothers and two sisters preceded her in death.
Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Watkins and Sons Funeral Home.
Services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Big Ridge Baptist Church, 10 miles south of Morehouse. The Rev. Jack Lewis of Lilbourn will officiate.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Sikeston.
