CARROLLTON - Joe A. Dodgen, 66, died May 18, 2003, at his home in Carrollton.

Born April 13, 1937 in Lonoke, Ark., the son of the late Wesley and Beatrice Dodgen.

He graduated from Charleston High School and the University of Missouri and served six years in the National Guard Reserves. He taught vocational agriculture from 1967-1997 at the Carrollton Area Vocational Technical School where he was the FFA and Young Farmer advisor. Dodgen established the first Young Farmer Chapter in the State of Missouri in 1967.

He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, where he taught children in the Sunday school nursery.

On Sept. 1, 1973, he married Esther Carls who survives of the home.

Other survivors include: five sisters and three brothers-in-law, Louise and Harold Weakley, Leland, Ill., Hazel Brumley of East Prairie, Jean and Jack Ashley of Madison, Tenn., Vivian and Bill Harris of Jackson and Carolyn Young of Painesville, Ohio; one brother and sister-in-law, John W. and Sandra Dodgen of East Prairie; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Gibson Funeral Home in Carrollton.

Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton with the Rev. Jeff Maxwell, pastor, officiating.

Burial will be conducted at 3 p.m. Thursday at the IOOF Cemetery near Charleston.
