BAKER - Willie Marguerite "Billie" Burks Baker, 86, died May 10, 2003, in Memphis, Tenn.

Born July 11, 1916, in Dyersburg, Tenn., daughter of the late W.G. and Pearl Burks, she was active in political and religious organizations throughout her life, including the Suburban Garden Club, St. Georges Episcopal Church and the Lydia Guild in Memphis. She was also a member of the Memphis Cotton Wives. In Southeast Missouri, she was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the American Revolution. She attended Stephens College in Columbia and graduated from the University of Tennessee, where she was a member of Chi Omega.

She was married to Tom F. Baker III, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include: three children and her daughter-in-law, Thomas Frazier and Elizabeth Baker IV of Germantown, Tenn., Susan Burks Baker of St. Thomas, United States Virgin Islands, and Andrew Norfleet Baker of Bridgehampton, N.Y.; three grandchildren, Carrie Baker Tydings of Potomac, Md., Hunter Baker Boone of Baltimore, Md., and Thomas Frazier Baker V of Germantown; and one great-granddaughter, Caroline Shelton Tydings of Potomac.

Visitation is from 6 to 8 p.m. today at St. Georges Episcopal Church in Germantown, where services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Graveside services will follow at the Fairview Cemetery in Dyersburg.
