NEW MADRID - Charles Edward LaValle Sr., 95, died May 5, 2003, at Beverly Healthcare in New Madrid.

Born Sept. 22, 1907, in New Madrid, son of the late Jean Edward and Addie Congrove LaValle, he started farming in 1943 and was also an engineer and businessman. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

On Oct. 23, 1933, he married Laura Allen Riley LaValle, who preceded him in death on June 25, 2001.

Survivors include: two daughters and one son-in-law, Laura Kathleen and Mike Deegan of Vienna, Va., and Virginia Ann Carlson of New Madrid; four sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Edward and Ella LaValle, William David and Glodine LaValle and Robert Allen and Linda LaValle of New Madrid and Mark Riley and Delores LaValle of Tiptonville, Tenn.; and 17 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Lane LaValle and one son-in-law, Jack Carlson.

Visitation is from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Richards Funeral Home in New Madrid, where a rosary is scheduled for 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Monsignor Mike Swalina officiating.

Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery.
